Yoga and Vagus Nerve – The Art of Inner Balance
- 16 januari 2026 /
Join Asia for this new XXL class dedicated to learning how Yoga practice can support the health and function of the vagus nerve – a key pathway in our body’s ability to regulate stress, restore the balance and return to the state of ease.
During the class we will explore the connection between yogic wisdom and modern understanding of the vagus nerve. Without diving too deep into anatomy or polyvagal theory, we will look at three basic nervous system states – fight & flight, rest & digest, and freeze – and connect them with the ancient concepts of yogic qualities of rajas, sattva, and tamas. This gentle bridge between modern physiology and yoga philosophy offers a clear, grounded understanding of how we shift between activation, clarity and heaviness in daily life.
The vagus nerve plays a unique role in connecting body and mind, carrying signals in both directions. It supports emotional regulation, social connection, and a felt sense of safety. When functioning well it strengthens our intuition and works as an inner compass.
Working with the vagus nerve also teaches us to notice our current state more clearly and to understand how and why we shift between activation, calmness, and shutdown. Instead of being “stuck” in one mode, we learn how movement, breath and mindful attention can gently guide us from one state to another. This capacity to recognise and navigate our inner landscape is one of the most empowering aspects of nervous-system work. It gives us control over our own experience.
Through carefully designed sequence of postures, breathing exercises and pranayama, mindful movement and self-massage you will experience how yoga stimulates vagal tone, supports emotional regulation, and helps the body move from stress response toward ease and resilience.
What to expect:
- A balanced Hatha Yoga practice with both activating and calming elements
- Poses supporting vagal stimulation and healthy nervous system regulation
- Breathing techniques and simple pranayama to cultivate calm and clarity
- Gentle massage techniques for face, neck, chest and diaphragm
- Movements designed to release tension from key vagus-related areas
- Mindful, slow practices to recognise internal states and shift them with care
- Modifications so you can adapt the practice to your needs
- A nourishing final relaxation
This practice is open and suited for everybody—no deep knowledge of anatomy or polyvagal theory required. Just curiosity and a willingness to learn something new.
