Beyond Stretching: Myofascial Release for Yoga Teachers

A 15hr teacher training | November 6 & 7, 2026 | Bindi

A practical training for yoga teachers who want to make their classes more effective by integrating myofascial release into yoga practice.

Most yoga classes rely on stretching. But in real bodies, stretching alone is often not enough.

Many students keep practicing for years and still experience tight hips, restricted shoulders, limited forward bends, or difficulty breathing freely in certain postures. Often the limitation is not only muscular, but connected to deeper fascial and structural patterns that influence how the body moves, stabilises, and responds to stress.

Myofascial release offers a different approach that goes beyond stretching.

A hands on training

This training explores how myofascial release can be applied directly in yoga teaching. Instead of only trying to lengthen muscles, we learn to work with fascial tension, pressure, breath, and structural connections in the body.

This is not a theoretical anatomy course.
It is a hands-on training based on years of teaching full classes and workshops (30+ students per session), refining techniques that actually work in group settings and can be integrated directly into Yin, Hatha, and Vinyasa classes.

The aim is to give yoga teachers practical tools for more effective and targeted classes.

What you will learn

During the training you will learn:

  • How to apply myofascial release in yoga classes
  • How fascia influences movement, restriction, stability and breath
  • How to use simple tools such as balls, hands and yoga props for release work
  • How to identify where limitation in the body may actually come from
  • How to integrate MFR into Yin, Hatha, and Vinyasa classes
  • How breath and nervous system regulation relate to fascia and release work
  • How to use fascial lines to prepare the body for asana
  • How to build more targeted and structured sequences
  • How to guide students safely through deeper bodywork practices
  • How to design targeted group classes and 1:1 sessions using MFR principles

Training structure

The first day focuses on understanding fascia, myofascial release principles and direct bodywork techniques.

We explore:

  • how fascia responds to pressure, movement and stress
  • the relationship between fascia, breath and nervous system regulation
  • trigger points, tension patterns and common restrictions in yoga practice
  • when stretching is not enough and release work may be more effective

Alongside the theory, we work directly with specific areas of the body to:

  • release local tension
  • explore pressure-based MFR techniques
  • learn full-body release sequences step by step
  • understand the body through sensation, breath and response

The day is strongly practical and experience-based, with immediate application to yoga teaching.

On the second day, we expand this work into larger movement patterns inspired by fascial lines and Anatomy Trains.

We explore:

  • back body line
  • front body line
  • side body line
  • spiral line
  • deep front line (including psoas, diaphragm, breath and core support)
  • arm and support lines

Each line is explored through direct experience and then immediately tested in yoga postures, so you can clearly feel how MFR changes movement and access to asana.

The training is practical, hands-on, and immediately applicable in Yin, Hatha and Vinyasa classes

How we work

You will:

  • work with simple tools such as soft balls, tennis balls, hands and yoga props
  • practice directly on your own body
  • test the effects immediately in yoga poses
  • learn how to integrate MFR into class planning and sequencing
  • receive guidance on safety, intensity and working with groups

Everything is designed to be used directly in your classes the next day.

Who this is for

This training is suitable for:

  • yoga teachers of all styles (Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa, etc.)
  • movement teachers and bodyworkers
  • experienced practitioners wanting a deeper understanding of the body

It is especially relevant if you feel that stretching-based approaches are no longer enough and you are looking for more effective tools to help students move and feel better.

About Asia

Asia Jokiel is a full-time yoga teacher based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, with nearly 4000 hours of teaching experience since 2017.

She specializes in classical Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and fascia-informed movement practices, combining both dynamic and restorative approaches to yoga with a strong focus on myofascial release and the connection between movement, breath, and the nervous system.

Over the years, Asia has developed a practical approach to integrating myofascial release into yoga classes and workshops. What started as simple “Yin Yoga with tennis balls” classes gradually evolved into workshops and trainings such as Going Deeper: Myofascial Release, Yoga & the Vagus Nerve, and fascia- and lymphatic-focused practices exploring mobility, regulation, and recovery.

Her classes regularly welcome 30+ students and her work focuses on methods that can be directly applied in real group settings. Connected with Bindi Yoga School since the beginning of her teaching journey, she is affectionately known by some students as “Fascia Asia”.

Asia completed a 500-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training at Arhanta Yoga Ashrams and continues to deepen her knowledge through the work of teachers such as Paul and Suzee Grilley, Bernie Clark, Jo Phee, Thomas Myers, Doug Keller and many others. She has also studied yoga and meditation in India, Nepal, and other parts of Asia.

Her teaching combines classical yoga principles with modern body awareness, practical anatomy, and direct experience—helping students better understand their bodies and experience yoga in a grounded and meaningful way.

Asia is an internationally registered Yoga Alliance teacher (E-RYT 500) and YACEP provider, recognised by Yoga Alliance as a qualified provider of continuing education for yoga teachers. She brings years of experience in yoga, body awareness and myofascial release work.
