Going deeper: myofascial release

Repeated due to huge success!

This new XXL class is a continuation of the work we did during “Yin Yoga and tennis balls”.

In this 2,5 hour XXL class you will learn how to take care and release your own myofascia using various techniques. We will massage the body with hands and tennis balls, learn various stretching and pressure techniques and experiment finding out what fits our needs the best.

Myofascial release practice goes much deeper into the tissues than traditional Yin Yoga.  Traditional Yin takes care only of the fascia that is wrapped around the muscles, on the surface, leaving the deep layers untouched and under stimulated. Those deep layers are called myofascia.

Often we follow yoga classes for years, they help us feel better, gain strength and flexibility, but certain body parts do not respond to the practice. Sometimes we have a tight hamstrings that won’t let go. Sometimes tight hips. Or lower back, or shoulders. No matter what we do those certain body parts feel stuck, tight and disconnected. This tightness might be caused by myofascia and if that’s the case it can be treated only through massage.

Myofascia gets tight and dry as we age, if we don’t move enough, maybe because of the seated lifestyle or injury that prevents us from moving. Dry myofascia creates tight knots that over time start to limit our mobility. When that happens we start noticing tightness in the muscles and joints, difficulty with movement, sometimes even some pain. Those tight knots are responsible for holding physical and emotional tensions.

In order to take care of those deepest layers of myofascia and release the tight knots we need a massage and manual treatment. Even the best Yin or Hatha Yoga practices won’t help, massage is absolutely necessary. This form of massage is often called by the professionals “deep tissue massage” or “myofascial release”. Simple myofascial release we can do ourselves at home. Learning the technique allows us to take care of our own bodies whenever it’s necessary. And it feels so good!

During this class you will learn how to identify, target and release those tight knots. You will experience much needed relief in the tired muscles, you will feel relaxed and cleansed, as every massage improves detoxification processes. You will learn your tension holding patterns: discover which muscles and parts of the body need the most attention and care. You will introduce yourself to the whole spectrum of new sensations being all the time in control of what is going on.

We will target hips, buttocks, pelvis, psoas, parts of the legs, back, shoulders and neck.

The practice will be quiet and slow-paced bringing us into the still, focused state that we know from the Yin Yoga. Anyone can join this practice, there is no previous experience required. If you want to give yourself a beautiful present, reconnecting with your body on a deeper level is a great place to start.
