Embodied voice: becoming sound

This new workshop focuses on the unity of the body, mind, breath and voice. During the Embodied Voice Practice we learn how to feel the voice as a physical sensation in the body, how to give it space, set it free and let it be a carrier of our emotions. When the body and voice unite they become an incredibly powerful tools for understanding, expressing, and changing ourselves, others, and the world around. Free voice, carried by the free breath throughout the free body, allows the arising emotions, wants and needs to emerge.
Voice is a vibrating air and singing is simply breathing out. When we sing (or speak) in the natural way, without interruption or manipulation, our voices are carried by the breath without any effort from the muscles. To find that freedom we need to find a deep physical awareness of what is happening in the body, where the breath feels locked and tensions arise.
Once we free the breath and body we can feel the vibrations that the sound of the voice creates. Body becomes a vibrating instrument resonating throughout and the sound that comes out is strongly, naturally and effortlessly. We can all do this and we have all done this as a babies. The ability to sing freely occurs from the very first moment of life, when the new born baby takes its first breath and starts crying. We were all singers before we could speak.
During the Embodied Voice: Becoming sound we will focus on:
- Grounding and connecting with our physical bodies through various body-work techniques
- Discovering and feeling how the breath becomes a sound
- Removing the slightest tensions and creating space so the body becomes a wholesome natural sound resonator
- Working with an open channel through which the voice, breath and energy can travel freely
- Working with an open throat as a part of the channel
- Working with the main resonators in the pelvis, chest, mouth/face and head
- Finding the confidence to let the natural, full come out loud and brave
- Releasing the fear and need of control that something must “sound right”
- Singing, harmonizing and connecting by weaving our voices together, creating beautiful uplifting energy
This workshop will happen 4 times: 16.02; 16.03; 13.04; 18.05. Each workshop will be a unique, full-rounded practice. You can join each workshop separately or follow them all for an exceptional, wholesome experience. Voice practices are like yoga – they need a bit of time, effort and dedication in order to flourish and unfold their power to the practitioner. By joining each of the 4 meetings you will give yourself space and time to notice how the practice evolves and changes as the voice awareness grows.
This workshop is open to everyone. You don’t need any previous experience with the voice/musical practices. If you feel that this is something for you – try it!!
Asia has been a part of the Bindi team since 2017. She is a very experienced yoga teacher with over 3000 hours of given classes and workshops. Even though today her work focuses on yoga and meditation, her first experiences with the body and breath awareness came through the voice work. As a 16-year-old she got introduced to the embodied theatre and voice practices led by many prominent creators, actors and teachers (like Gardzienice Theatre, ZAR Theatre or Chorea). She has learned how work with traditional music and rooted songs as the archetypical carriers of vibrations and emotions. After years of yoga practice she has understood fully the power of the embodied voice work and now she is combining all this knowledge into this new beautiful workshop.
